Get ready for a spine-chilling journey into the supernatural with “BLACK CHARIOT,” a film that blends Hitchcockian suspense with classic film noir. Directed by Lawrie Brewster, known for his work on “Lord of Tears” and “The Unkindness of Ravens,” this new horror venture promises a gripping experience inspired by Hitchcock’s masterpieces like “Rebecca” and “Psycho”.
Brewster’s vision for “BLACK CHARIOT” is a tribute to the golden age of horror, aiming to deliver a film that’s both hauntingly beautiful and deeply terrifying. He describes his inspiration, saying, “My childhood was haunted and mesmerized by Hitchcock’s work, shaping my understanding of fear and obsession. This film is a dream come true, a love letter to that era”.
The movie stars Laurence R. Harvey, famous for his role in “The Human Centipede” series, as a ruthless manipulator. He coerces three young men, played by Novarra Ramon, Dorian Todd, and Sam Barclay, into stealing a mysterious red briefcase. This heist leads them to a dark rendezvous with a figure known as “The Devil,” portrayed by Richard Pate. Also caught in the web are two detectives, played by Nick Ford and Marco Rinaldi, who are just as ominous.
Rising star Megan Tremethick, who plays Nell, is captivated by the film’s eerie storyline. She compares the film to “Carnival of Souls,” praising its ethereal and uncanny elements. Tremethick’s portrayal of Nell, a hostage caught in this supernatural nightmare, adds a layer of vulnerability and intensity to the narrative. The plot thickens as the characters must evade the red headlights of a black Wolseley 15/50, which hides a nightmarish figure within.
“BLACK CHARIOT” is shot in striking black and white, enhancing its noir aesthetic and horror elements. This choice aligns with Brewster’s intent to return to the classic roots of horror, merging style with substance. The film’s production team, including producer Sarah Daly, emphasizes the movie’s complex characters and captivating storyline as key elements that set it apart.
The film’s Kickstarter campaign, set to launch on August 6, invites early supporters to sign up for exclusive Blu-Rays and merchandise. This crowdfunding effort follows Hex Studios’ successful campaign for “Spoiling You,” marking another step in their journey to bring retro-inspired horror to the forefront.
