TELL NO LIES – Review – STACKED Rating

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

When his wife goes missing, a desperate husband turns to law enforcement for help, only to discover his innocence is being questioned by everyone.

Buckle up for “Tell No Lies,” the latest TUBI Original that dives into the dark world of true crime. If you’re a fan of gripping documentaries like “American Nightmare,” you’ll find yourself right at home with this thriller.

The story follows Sofia Rose and her on-off boyfriend, Ben, as they get caught up in a chilling kidnapping that feels all too real. But here’s the twist: while the official plot talks about a husband and wife, the real focus is on Sofia and Ben’s tumultuous relationship.

From the get-go, it’s clear that “Tell No Lies” draws inspiration from real-life events covered in “American Nightmare.” The kidnapping scene feels ripped straight from the headlines, complete with blacked-out goggles and a terrifying abduction.

But just when you think you’ve got the story figured out, “Tell No Lies” takes a sharp turn into soap opera territory. The ending feels exploitative and downright gross, with twists that’ll leave you shaking your head in disbelief.

Director Dylan Vox and writer Sandra Bailey deliver a mixed bag with this one. While the story starts strong, the soapy drama takes over in the final act, leaving a sour taste in your mouth.

And let’s talk about that final scene. It’s like they took a perfectly good true crime story and slapped a cheesy telenovela ending on it. It’s a reminder that sometimes, less is more.

In the end, “Tell No Lies” is a cautionary tale about the dangers of straying too far from reality. While it may have its moments, it’s ultimately a missed opportunity to do justice to the true crime genre.

So, if you’re in the mood for a thriller with a side of drama, “Tell No Lies” might scratch that itch. Just don’t expect it to stick the landing like its documentary counterpart.

Director: Dylan Vox
Writer: Sandra Bailey
Stars: Keturah Chambers, Aaron Fontaine, Emily Eaton-Plowright, Wil Johnson, Nkechi Simms, James Palmer, Lachele Carl, Adam Bond
