Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii – Goro Majima’s High-Seas Adventure
Sega and the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio are shaking things up with their latest release in the Like a Dragon series, titled Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. This new instalment brings a thrilling pirate theme to the franchise, centring on the iconic Goro Majima. Fans can look forward to the game launching on February 28, 2025, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows, and PC (Steam).
Majima’s Journey: From Shipwreck to Treasure Hunt
Set a year after the events of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii opens with Goro Majima washed ashore on a deserted island, suffering from amnesia after a shipwreck. His only companion is a boy named Noah, who rescued him from the wreckage. As Majima struggles to piece together his lost identity, he embarks on an adventure across the Pacific, navigating the dangers of modern pirates, criminals, and an ancient treasure hunt.
This unique twist takes Majima out of the bustling cities of Japan and into the wide-open seas, offering players a completely new experience within the familiar Like a Dragon framework. The game is filled with rich exploration, from Hawaiian islands to hidden coves and pirate outposts, providing a fresh and adventurous vibe.
Pirate-Style Combat: Two Dynamic Fighting Modes
As with any Like a Dragon game, combat is a key focus, and Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii introduces some exciting new mechanics. Majima can switch between two fighting styles: the swashbuckling “Sea Dog” style, where he wields pirate tools and dual-wields short swords, and the classic “Mad Dog” style, focusing on Majima’s signature speed, agility, and unpredictability.
Players will also be able to upgrade Majima’s ship, the Goro Maru, to take on naval combat, battling rival pirate ships in explosive sea battles. This new addition gives the game a more tactical feel, as players will need to navigate both land and sea combat to survive.
Building a Pirate Crew
In true Like a Dragon fashion, Majima won’t be sailing alone. Players will gather a crew of misfit characters to aid in their adventure. The game’s open-world mechanics allow for plenty of side quests and activities, ranging from treasure hunts to deep-sea diving, giving players a broad variety of experiences outside the main storyline.
Fans of the series will be pleased to see returning characters like Ichiban Kasuga, who makes an appearance in the form of a special DLC pack. Pre-order bonuses include the “Ichiban Pirate Crew Set,” allowing players to add Ichiban and his pet crayfish, Nancy, to Majima’s crew, as well as the “Ichiban Special Outfit Set,” which gives Majima access to some of Ichiban’s iconic looks.
A Bold New Direction
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is a bold step for the franchise, taking a beloved character and placing him in a completely new environment. With its fresh combat mechanics, expansive exploration, and an exciting narrative that blends pirate lore with the Yakuza underworld, the game is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious titles in the series.
Fans of Goro Majima and the Like a Dragon franchise can start pre-ordering their copy now, choosing from the Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s Editions, each offering its own unique bonuses. Whether you’re in it for the fast-paced action, the rich storytelling, or the pirate adventures, this game is one to watch for when it drops in early 2025.
