Get ready for a wild ride into the dark depths of the internet with “DarkGame”! The movie kicks off with The Presenter orchestrating gruesome murders for the highest bidder, setting the tone for a twisted tale of cybercrime and danger.
Detectives Ben Jacobs and Cathy Burnette are on the case, rescuing kidnapped kids and diving headfirst into the world of online horrors. But when a woman thought dead suddenly reappears, they realize they’re dealing with a cunning foe who knows how to cover their tracks.
With a script by Gary Grant and Niall Johnson, “DarkGame” follows a familiar setup of cops racing against time to stop a tech-savvy villain. But the twist here is The Presenter’s thirst for an audience, turning the internet into his own twisted stage.
Director Howard J. Ford brings the action to life with intense scenes of danger and suspense, from high-stakes chases to heart-pounding confrontations. But even with its decent action, “DarkGame” struggles to break free from clichés and deliver something truly original.
Sure, there are moments that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat, like a chilling branding scene and a tense showdown with a desperate mother. But overall, “DarkGame” falls short of standing out in a crowded genre.
If you’re in the mood for a straightforward thriller with a cyber twist, “DarkGame” might scratch that itch. But don’t expect it to reinvent the wheel or leave you breathless with excitement. It’s a decent watch for a lazy afternoon, but it won’t blow your mind.
