MEA CULPA – Review – STACKED Rating

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Follows an ambitious criminal defence attorney who, in her aspiration to be named partner, takes on the case of an artist accused of murdering his girlfriend.

Tyler Perry’s latest flick, “Mea Culpa,” might not be winning any Oscars, but it’s definitely worth a watch if you’re into drama with a side of guilty pleasure. Directed and written by Perry himself, this movie stars Kelly Rowland as Mea Harper, a badass attorney caught up in a web of deceit and danger.

At the start, we see Mea dealing with some serious marriage drama. Her hubby Kal, played by Sean Sagar, is a total mama’s boy, and his mom Azalia, played by Kerry O’Malley, is making life hell. Add in financial troubles and rumours of infidelity, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.

But things really heat up when Mea takes on a murder case involving artist Zyair Malloy, played by Trevante Rhodes. It’s a classic whodunit with twists and turns that’ll keep you guessing till the end. Plus, Mea’s brother-in-law is the DA on the case, adding even more drama to the mix.

Now, I won’t spoil the whole plot, but let’s just say Perry throws in some steamy romance and intense courtroom showdowns that’ll have you on the edge of your seat. And while the script might be a bit over-the-top and predictable, Rowland and Rhodes bring enough chemistry to keep things interesting.

But let’s be real, “Mea Culpa” isn’t winning any awards for its direction or dialogue. Perry’s style might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re looking for a wild ride full of drama and suspense, this movie delivers.

Sure, it might be a bit cheesy at times, but isn’t that what guilty pleasures are all about? So grab some popcorn, kick back, and enjoy the ride with “Mea Culpa.” Just don’t take it too seriously, and you’ll have a blast.
